We took a cruise with Windjammer, a smaller very laid-back company which is unfortunately no longer in business. It was big fun, but a floating city holds no appeal to me.Joy K.https://www.blogger.com/profile/06200194467024962551noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9199848742267562587.post-9463195855348152002010-05-31T10:50:53.114-06:002010-05-31T10:50:53.114-06:00This post has been included in the latest edition ...This post has been included in the latest edition of the Berry Go Round web carnival. Although it looks like it could be either Yellow-rumped, Cacicus cela,, or Yellow-winged, C. melanicterus, the Yellow-rumped supposedly doesn’t occur much North of Panama, whereas PV is smack dab in the Yellow-winged’s range. Great job- thanks!Watcherhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02248341788957416471noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9199848742267562587.post-20141511763086617812010-04-23T16:11:27.147-06:002010-04-23T16:11:27.147-06:00That mystery bird has bee really bothering me.

At about 6 months, when summer arrived, I started putting them out on the back deck for a few hours at a time, but then disaster struck- a digging squirrel uprooted and killed 2. I brought the other 2 back inside. About a year later I tried starting 4 more seedlings; 2 sprouted, but neither lasted. The original 2 are still doing OK; 1 looks good, the other iffy. Though both grow beautiful soft blue needles, neither has yet moved out of the immature phase and developed fascicles, which I expected them to do around year 2. (It’s year 4 now.) Next project: Build a small chicken-wire enclosure and put them outside full-time in the summer months.

Here’s a photo of one of the seedlings from a year ago.
