Someday I am getting a post out of that.

Christopher- Thanks for the comment/ correction. (Though now I wonder if my takeaway is that I should have spent more time in an easier category- as a racing "caterpillar"- before upgrading...)Watcherhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02248341788957416471noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9199848742267562587.post-70429585295796811522009-06-29T21:26:18.524-06:002009-06-29T21:26:18.524-06:00I suspect you may have misinterpreted the "ol...I suspect you may have misinterpreted the "older is better" bit, because butterflies don't grow in size after they become butterflies. "Older" probably refers to how long they spend as caterpillars before they turn into butterflies (which would affect size). In this case, the "older is tougher" angle may be more likely than the "older has less to lose" angle, because I don't know whether butterflies that spend more time as caterpillars would be likely to live any less time as adults.Christopher Taylorhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11075565866351612441noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9199848742267562587.post-38908882082701843112009-06-29T19:45:55.469-06:002009-06-29T19:45:55.469-06:00Less than a week ago, I remarked to my wife how am...Less than a week ago, I remarked to my wife how amazing it was that caterpillars started life as one type of creature and ended-up as something completely different. Here's my take: Cat. ...Congrats on the upgrade. Here's my take: Cat. 4 is nothing more than a Cat. 5 with at least 10 starts. You didn't have to do anything but enter races to get there, so even if you ride a $10,000 bike and wear socks that say "your bike sucks" but get dropped on the first hill, you still got upgrade credit for entering. Saying you're a Cat. 4 has pretty much no cachet other than not being a Cat. 5.

Cat. 3, on the other hand, has some street cred that goes with it. You had to actually get results to get there, so even if you finish DFL in every race, you're still racing threes.

Nice work. But I think you should call yourself "the butterfly" rather than "the admiral."Ski Bike Junkiehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12295969126174565599noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9199848742267562587.post-51706119645528405782009-06-29T10:13:25.235-06:002009-06-29T10:13:25.235-06:00I assume your cat 3 upgrade reassurance came from ...I assume your cat 3 upgrade reassurance came from the "older is tougher" theory, not the "older has less to lose" theory. Because you're married with children I'd say you have more to lose than a single guy, but perhaps I'm taking it too far. It may be that a 40-something racer thinks "I'm lucky to be able to race at all and next year may be worse so I better give it all today".KanyonKrishttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01954169751206336705noreply@blogger.com
