It makes a tighter fit in the holster, and the surface is much higher friction than that of the "naked" camera.

WD-The lanyard is a clever idea- didn't think of that. Not sure I'd want it around the neck though... but I could use some cord that attached say to the Camelbak shoulder strap.

So far the holster/condom combo is working out well. Biggest complaint is that any of the fine control stuff (switching to manual mode, continuous shot mode, etc.) is really difficult with the condom in place (and gloves on.) For basic point & shoot though it works great.Watcherhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02248341788957416471noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9199848742267562587.post-40122487653102134022009-05-11T09:15:00.000-06:002009-05-11T09:15:00.000-06:00Great multi-dimensional post! I tend to drift off to the home planet during some of your more technical posts with thoughts like, gee if the Angiosperms are doing that, what percentage of the air I breath is a concentration of what flora flavor and why don't my lungs just get clogged up with the stuff?

I have been struggling with the camera phenomenon as well and have two solutions. First is a lanyard I wear around my neck so that dropping the camera only lets it go so far but it's still in a jersey pocket. To solve the more rapid access, pulling on the lanyard is much quicker than reaching into the pocket, I have done some rides with a flexible tripod wrapped around the handlebars. It looks geeky as all get out but pictures are just a double click away; one to wake up the camera and then one to get the shot. Results are mixed so far as blurring is sometimes the result but sometimes not so more research is needed. My camera is an Olympus 770-SW which is shock-proof & water proof (the manual explains how to clean it by putting in a bucket of water and turning it on and off to clean up the lens cover mechanism!).WheelDancerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15219805760534549996noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9199848742267562587.post-8724682193002348082009-05-10T22:25:00.000-06:002009-05-10T22:25:00.000-06:00Just make sure the holster is very secure. Holy crap.

KKris- Yes I neglected to give you photo credits- thanks! And you gotta get a holster. I picked up mine @Best Buy.

Anon- first, a point of order: I already DO look like a serious badass riding the trail. I have a beef with my team’s kit in that the jersey pockets are just a titch too high. I’m not usually dealing with a camera in a race/team ride, but I do get frustrated trying to sort food, gel-flasks, wind vest, ibuprofen, etc. while rolling at speed. In my non-team jerseys I have a select few with great pockets, and then a whole bunch that are otherwise great jerseys, but have really awkward pockets. I don’t know why I can’t remember to check out the pockets better when shopping for them…Watcherhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02248341788957416471noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9199848742267562587.post-47341659051106356902009-05-09T10:21:00.000-06:002009-05-09T10:21:00.000-06:00I just realized that this phrase could be seriousl...I just realized that this phrase could be seriously taken out of context:

"the condom will probably make me worry less about it slipping from my hand while trying to grab it."

woah!

regards--tedAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9199848742267562587.post-34254605096860349292009-05-09T10:19:00.000-06:002009-05-09T10:19:00.000-06:00Nice maple flower pic, I've never really noticed t...Nice maple flower pic, I've never really noticed the actual petals before.

I'm gonna have to get one of those camera condoms.
